From the article:
Seventy-three percent (73%) of U.S. voters believe that a police officer should automatically check to see if someone is in this country legally when the officer pulls that person over for a traffic violation. Only 21% disagree, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.
Sixty-seven percent (67%) of voters also say that if law enforcement officers know of places where immigrants gather to find work, they should sometimes conduct surprise raids to identify and deport illegal immigrants. Twenty-four percent (24%) oppose surprise raids.
And, true to form, 74% of polled Democrats are more concerned with civil rights violations than with checking to see if someone is here illegally. We already know where Democrat leadership is on this topic: Full steam ahead! Their stimulus package includes $104 billion in construction funding. But there is no guarantee that illegals won't pick up the work. Estimates show 300,000 illegals (1 in 7 workers) could get the jobs.
Back to the Rasmussen poll; an astounding 74% think the government is not doing enough to secure the borders.
We know that Obama lied to get elected. He's a serial liar. Here's his "platform" on immigration from his own website (no, I won't link to it.)
* Barack Obama will secure our borders:
Obama and Biden want to preserve the integrity of our borders. They
support additional personnel, infrastructure, and technology on the border and
at our ports of entry.
* Improve our immigration system:
Obama and Biden believe we must fix the dysfunctional immigration bureaucracy
and increase the number of legal immigrants to keep families together and meet
the demand for jobs that employers cannot fill.
* Bring people out of the shadows:
Obama and Biden support a system that requires undocumented immigrants who are
in good standing to pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line
for the opportunity to become citizens.
Has he done any of these? No. Does he probably intend to do any of these? No.
The most outrageous thing about Immigration Enforcement is that it PAYS! By allowing local LEO agencies to question immigration status and get the subjects deported, costs about $60 million per year. (stat here.)
In contrast, ICE spent more than ten times that annual cost -- about $219 million -- last year alone to remove 34,000 aliens under the fugitive operations program.
