Back in February of this year, Newsweek quoted an FBI source as saying that kidnapping of Americans was averaging 6 per month. According to the Newsweek article, most of the kidnappings are preselected - they're not random. In some circumstances, Americans along the border are being abducted and taken to Mexico.
