Fort Mount Greenwood under seige

For decades now Mt. Greenwood has been an island unto itself. Composed mostly of white, middle class families - many of whom are police and firemen - the neighborhood has enjoyed being relatively free from crime.

Now that is all changing.

Since May 1, 2008 beats 2211 and 2212 have had an inordinate number of robberies - armed and strong arm. All have been committed by a group of black men. These offenders are probably from the east end of the district.

The offenders were almost caught, but managed to escape from a police chase. (story here.)

From an astute reader:
TODAY AT ABOUT NOON, THREE MALE BLACKS IN A BLACK INFINITY SUV, ROBBED 3 DIFFERENT VICTIMS AT GUNPOINT. THE VICTIMS WERE ALL IN BEVERLY AND MT. GREENWOOD.(THE SUV WAS TAKEN IN A CAR JACKING IN SOUTH HOLLAND)

105TH & OAKLEY, 2500 W. 110TH AND 11201 S. WHIPPLE

ALSIP PD OBSERVED THE VEHICLE AT 122ND & PULASKI AFTER THEY ROBBED ANOTHER PERSON IN ALSIP

THE OFFENDERS GOT ON THE EXPRESSWAY CPD & ALSIP GAVE CHASE AND THE VEHICLE EXITED AT 99TH & HALSTED WHERE THEY STRUCK A PEDESTRIAN AND GOT BACK ON THE EXPRESS WAY. POLCIE LOST THEM AROUND 87TH

ALSIP SAID THEY HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF THE SAME TYPE OF ROBBERIES.

These types of situations could be prevented by having a trained and armed group of citizens. If the criminals thought for one second that the victim that they've targeted had a gun, they'd certainly think twice about doing the crime.

If you live in Beverly or Mt. Greenwood, make sure you stay aware of your surroundings. If you're licensed to conceal and carry, regardless of what state you're certified in, I'd recommend that you begin carrying your weapon on your person when in these neighborhoods.

Mt. Greenwood is changing - and not for the better.

Mt. Greenwood is not alone. We have had this type of crime in Hegewisch as well. Many of them come through the back door...Indiana.

So why don't you lazy residents of these crime stricken areas watch out for trouble yourselves? You know, like the neighborhood watch program? Most of you folks are just laying around on your couches becoming large food blisters. The walk about could do you some good. You bring the crime on yourselves for putting your guard down.

I would agree with you if the citizens could legally arm themselves.
Cops? POs are tired when they get home; no one wants to play police
around their own house.........

Cops are too tired when they get home??? Most sleep on the job on midnights. Lets put police style lights on P.O.s homes, therefore we could just go to their home for service. (You get duty availability pay right?} So earn it...

We need more off duty shootings.

There was a mysterious incident Thursday 11/6 in the evening, off duty policeman assaulted a resident. Lots of police activity, wonder if we will see that in the news. Doubt it.
