UPDATE: The Chicago FOP Website posted the following wake and funeral information -
Police Officer Jose Vazquez, Star # 13088, assigned to Unit 153, Special Operations Section, passed away on Monday, 12 February 2007.
Waked at Montblair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 W. Belmont, Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, 15 February 2007 from 1400 - 2100 hours. St. Jude will meet at 1900 hours.
Services at Resurrection Church, 2840 W. Nelson, Chicago, Illinois on Friday 16 February 2007 at 1000 hours. Interment private.
Officer Jose Vazquez, formerly of Grand Central but assigned to SOS, was gunned down and murdered behind his home in the 2500 block of west Harrison the other night.
He was coming home from his side job.
My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this impossibly difficult time.
The night that Jose was killed was the one year anniversary of the death of Officer Eric Solorio. Eric died after being in a terrible traffic crash, while in a vehicle pursuit.
Those of you who've tried to access my site or SCC's site know that right now you can't view any webpage that contains the URL ".blogspot.com". The department has actively disabled our access to that IP range.
The hypersensitive brass now see fit to censor the pages that they feel would hinder your job performance. They know that that isn't a valid reason for blocking the sites...they are threatened by the open channel of communication that the internet affords. Their justification for blocking us isn't clear because no one is talking down at HQ. It's all super-secret-squirrel stuff.
But their "smart filter" isn't being used because our blogs can't be categorized as sites that contain pornography, nudity or one of the other items that would constitute a site that is banned.
It is a terrible shame because now that one of our brothers is dead, CPD personnel can't access the blogs to get the latest on Jose's funeral and wake.
As the years go by it is more and more evident to me that our department is run by petty little men with fragile egos.
God bless the memory of Jose Vazquez - may the savage that did this meet the proper level of justice.
