Something's not right...

Hmmmm. Scanning the front page of the Sunday Tribune, my gaze was arrested (forgive the pun) by this photo.

animal

Look at the highlighted face of the youth that the camera caught in the background.

Any street-savvy cop would take one look at him and do a double-take. A name check would soon follow. That kid is trouble, no doubt. He's seen the inside of the Audy home, fo sho.

But that smug, distant, and emotionally detached visage is not something that only felons, of late, are adopting - mainstream entertainers are picking up the nuances of "street Cred" and taking to wearing doo-rags, bling and "grillz." Mimicking their idols 50-cent, Lil Wayne, and Snoop - they "roll strong" by adopting the language and mannerisms of violence. Even the Tribune article on 'krumping' cites adjectives such as violence, battle and fighting as the fabric of the culture.

Everything is for today, nothing is for tomorrow

The article is just another bone-throw to the liberals who think that giving kids like these a place to jump around and dance is equivalent to giving Chinese computer engineering students the keys to the University of Chicago computer lab.

The guys and gals in this photo are definitely not computer engineering students. Fighting, battle and Death - the article is replete with adjectives of conflict -

Suddenly, in the wee hours of a Monday morning, the battle was on: A pulsating throng formed a circle and watched the dancers face off in a gladiatorial display of "footworkin'"--a little-known, Chicago-born street dance in which feet frenetically stomp and kick a stutter-step pattern that resembles a hip-hop version of "Riverdance." (yea, right.)

Within minutes, Terra Squad withdrew, leaving the field to Sonic Heat's chaotic moves and Gumby limberness. "West Side for life!" Kelly shouted, arms raised in victory.

While young inner-city Angelenos were krumping, footworkin' was emerging from the West and South Sides of Chicago, where self-taught dancers still argue about who started stomping first.

Their angular moves sparked a phenomenon that has grown to include dozens of African-American dance troupes that mix footworkin' with modern dance choreography, as well as purist "battle cliques" that specialize in the street form.

What high aspirations! Do these young people want to find a cure for cancer? Do they want to start and run a successful company? Do they want to be piano virtuosos?

No. Do you know why? Because the simple answer is: doing that would take commitment, hardwork, education and an innovative and dynamic character.

Mediocrity for everyone!

A few years ago I saw an interview with Alicia Keyes - the gifted and talent singer/pianist. She was going into an award ceremony and was outside speaking with an interviewer. She was eloquent, casual and obviously a cultured and educated person. When she stepped in front of the microphone to accept her award - she regressed into an ebonics tirade. She went on and on about "rising from the ghetoo" and "working against the struggles" - she was using NAACP talking points.

It was terrible.

Later I learned that her mother is white and her father was black and that her father had abandoned her and her mother when Alicia was very young.

The article reflects a Liberal world-view in which, residents of gang and drug infected areas are "offered hope" by engaging in some Art form or another. The art can be dance, painting (ie graffiti), vocal or musical. In the short-term these interventions can work. Getting kids into a program that offers alternatives to gangbanging and drug-using is admirable but they don't work in the long-term. As it says in the article - "[the] ultimate prize [to dancing] is respect."

Sadly, the highest aspiration of these young people is simply that, respect. How they garner that is what we see embodied in their heroes - 50Cent and his ilk. Respect is snatched by intimidation, violence, fighting, commiting crime and taking risks. Young people in depressed urban areas are offered all of these elements in a nice nifty package: in a Gang enclave. The gang culture gives lip service to respect, 'love' and loyalty but its actions are anything but.

The trojan horse is that the gangs recruit kids from single parent, fatherless, broken homes - homes which should be giving their children respect, boundaries and love - and offer them an extension of that very household. By joining, they immediately see their social circle expand and their respect level increase. No longer just some 'shorty-wannabe' - he is now a member of an elite Gang; with all the privileges and honors that are forthcoming. The privilege of earning 'street cred' by killing, brutalizing and terrorizing a neighborhood and its citizens.

But Liberals are masters at the Art of "non-identification." They refuse to identify or address the real foundational issues as to why a community is saturated with gang bangers and drug use. The standard bearers of Political Correctness at the Chicago Tribune wouldn't have the courage to print an article which elucidates how the parents in these communities are really to blame.

It is much easier to just say that these areas are ghettos because of "economics, unemployment and a lack of Federal monies."

Dance Fever

Just as anybody can be a parent - anybody can girate around a dance floor and claim it to be a life changing event. I know of one 'bboy' who was somewhat successful with his hiphop carreer - Mr Wiggles. He was even featured on a PBS special.

Dance is an important art form but it is not an end-all/be-all. It is certainly NOT a band-aid and is not an acceptable cure for the ills effecting the black and hispanic communities across the US.

The situation reminds me of a family which has a child who is a spoiled, ill-mannered rapscallion who acts-out continually. The family kow-tows and gives into this child's tantrums but nothing changes his behavior. Anything the child does is wonderful - he could paint a brown and black smear on the garage wall and his clueless parents would praise him for his "aristic talents" and "his powerful deliverance of art leitmotifs". Meanwhile he just gets smugger and smugger knowing that no matter what he does, it doesn't matter. His "tolerant" parents will look approvingly upon his most pedestrian pursuits.

Tolerance does have its limits and political correctness is veiled totalitarianism.

In this age of PC gone awry, mediocrity is the theme of the day - below average students are rewarded with Educational grants and front page news items. Below average applicants are given jobs based on their race eventhough higher qualified individuals are available. Illegal aliens are allowed to cross the border with impunity and are rewarded with social benefits and jobs.

Thanks to Liberals, we are creating a country of petty tyrants and mediocre people whose hands are continually extended with the slogan "where's mine?"

Little Women, Big Mouths

Listening to Kate O'beirne, Washington editor of the National Review, the other day was an enlightening experience. The purpose of the interview was to promote her new book - Women Who Make the World Worse - a scathing diatribe against the cultural decimation by the arch-Feminist movement.

The catchy title and the caricatures of Hillary and Barbara Streisand on the cover jacket were enough to make me shell out the $20.00 at my local Borders.

women_who

But I was surprised at how incisive and eye-opening it was. Since I was born in the early 70s, I grew up hearing about Feminism, ERA, and Gloria Steinem. The thing I remember most was the bra-burning. Topless hippy chicks with hairy armpits standing in the streets of Haight-Ashbury twirling their burning brassiers over their heads like Gene Autry wielded a lasso. I believed everything that they told me - that women are a mistreated, not promoted, abused and victimized by the jackbooted, white, male patriarchy.

O'beirne's point is that feminists have done significant harm to our culture and our workplaces by
waging an ideological campaign in which working women are portrayed as victims - discriminated against in pay and persistently preyed upon by male oppressors. But a closer look at the facts show a different picture. She writes that "The Jobs Rated Almanac reveals that twenty-three of the twenty-five jobs rated as the worst are over 90 percent male. That's just one of the many uncomfortable facts that feminists ignore in order to make their dishonest claims. Men make up 54 percent of the workforce, but account for 92 percent of job-related deaths. Jobs that are flexible, fulfilling, and safe (so typically favored by women) pay less. Feminists hate it when that happens."

Is there a glass ceiling for women in the workplace? No - if you compare white, never-married women between the ages of 45 and 54 with white, never-married men of the same age group; women earn, on average, 106 percent of the men. Women professors who had never married, earned 145 percent of their male counterparts. Female auto mechanics make 129 percent of their male counterparts. And it goes on.

It comes down to choices. Many women earn less because they choose to have children and work part-time. But the feminist agenda needs to keep feeding the flames of victimhood in order to perpetuate the lies that discrimination exists. It is just more Leftist pandering.

Sick of it yet? Sick of being blamed for things that you had no control over? Like being born a Male? Or having a high IQ? The Left has been force-feeding us their Liberal agenda for 40 years. I don't care that they have an agenda - everyone does. They won't admit to it though - that is what irks me.

Global Warming is bad for Blacks

Global Warming could spell disaster for Blacks, says BET.com [hat tip: Drudge Report]

I have a friend who has been actively cheating on his wife for 10 years. He balances 1 or 2 "side-broads" at any given time. His wife may suspect something but he's never said that she has confronted him with her suspicions. He, on the other hand, is constantly rifling through her purse, checking her cell phone and asking her if she's having an affair. Of course she's not. So why is my cheating friend so accusatory towards his wife? Because he is "projecting" his own guilt and agenda on to her. Since he's cheating, he assumes that she must be too - or at least thinking about it.

The same model of projection is in opertion on a grander scale with our beloved and 'misundertood' Black community.

You'd be hard-pressed to find another group of people who are so controlled and manipulated by hysteria than the Black community. The range of conspiracy musings run the gamut. Insane accusations apparently go unchecked in the MSM. Some real winners are "the CIA created crack to kill blacks"; "the Government detonated explosives at the NOLA levee to kill blacks"; and "the CIA created AIDS in order to kill blacks." Now we see more hysteria coming from a major black entertainment source. BET.com says that global warming is dangerous to "people of color" because rising sea levels could engulf large portions of coastline and we could see another Katrina-type of disaster. It is more evidence that whites are going to use natural disasters to further their "racism" against blacks. As Kanyae West said,"Bush doesn't like Black people."

“It has been ingrained in our heads that to be anything, you must have everything,” says EJCC steering committee member Nia Robinson.  “Because some of us have a big car and a nice house, people aren’t seeing that racism still exists.  But Katrina showed that racism is alive and well in America.  Now that people have that idea, I think we’re in a really critical stage to organize, educate and mobilize people.”

The buffoon who wrote the article says "environmentalists" blame the "fierce new storms" on global warming. Certainly most environmentalists don't have an understanding of the science behind climatology and have erroneously decided that global warming is the cause of hurricanes. Most climatologists claim that G.W. has little to do with initiating hurricanes. Climatologists do say that over the last 50+ years the earth's median temperature has risen. But the jury is still out as to whether or not green-house gases are to blame. There is evidence to indicate that the current rise in temperature is a natural cyclical event. In the 1970's there was a large debate in scientific circles about "global cooling" - remember that? Whatever happened to the dozens of books written on the subject? Who knows.

The author further claims that "Relatively, Blacks are environmental Good Samaritans.  Per capita, we emit approximately 20 percent less carbon dioxide than Whites – well below 2020 targets set by the U.S. Climate Stewardship Act." See here for this "study"

Huh?

This bogus study was done by the Congressional Black Caucus - I'm not sure but this group may have a Pro-Black / Anti-White agenda. I'm just guessing on that one. It's interesting as to how they could determine that blacks emit less CO2 than whites.

The article slams Bush for not approving the Kyoto Accords. A recent report shows that most of the countries who signed it, all but two, haven't been able to conform to the agreement. Bush recognized that Kyoto was just not workable and would be a detriment to our economy. Its stringent constraints weren't realistic.

But the unhinged Left doesn't care about facts. The sad and pathetic truth is that the Black community continues to choose leaders who promote these quasi-conspiratorial myths. Katrina was a disaster, not because "Bush hates black people" or due to racism, but because blacks make the choice in keeping leaders like Ray Nagin in charge.

Nagin is an incompetent leader and a racist fool. Period.

The black community continues to point the finger at Bush and whites in their racism mewlings. They continue to play the race card in order to further their political aims. The accusations of racism are simply a projection - since Black leaders have an economic gain in keeping racism alive, they need to keep fanning the flames. And if there is no flame, they bring gasoline and matches.

The biggest racists are always the first to scream "racism" when they don't get their way. At a time when Blacks are succeeding in a myriad of ways - economically, in home ownership, savings, wages, education - it is time to quit the finger pointing and get on board the America train with the rest of us.

Together - we can.

Bon jour, Mumia!

In another disgraceful show of Socialist detachment, Mumia - the convicted Cop killer, was made an honorary citizen of Paris.

Mumia's death sentence was commuted to life in prison but the conviction was sustained. Even Michael Moore believes that this former Black Panther is guilty of murdering Officer Faulkner.

There is substatial evidence showing that Mumia killed Officer Faulkner - in fact, witnesses outside the hospital heard him confess to the crime. When Jamal was brought to Jefferson Hospital on the night of the killing, he struggled a moment with the police outside the Emergency Room entrance. At that time, several witnesses claim to have heard him shout "I shot the mother fucker and I hope the mother fucker dies".

It's a shame that this piece of shit isn't dead yet.

God bless the soul of Officer Daniel Faulkner. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

In this age of Gansta-rap, tattoos, breast enhancements and HBO, the rule is: Men of Vice are honored - Men of Virtue are denigrated.

"F" Mumia! And I don't mean "free him"...

Woe-Be-Gone: Way Gone!

The liberals don't get it and, I'm starting to think, they never will. One of the touchy-feely voices of Leftist hypocrisy is the author of the Prairie Home Companion - none other than Garrison Keillor.

Posted at Salon, the Lake Woe-Be-Gone pitchman throws his full weight into lecturing us on how President Bush is a liar and is so self-deluded that he can't recognize that he's on a tyrannical, maniacal power trip.

More projection from the unhinged Left. FrontPageMag highlights some of Keillor's extremist and, frankly, unrealistic depictions of what differentiates Republicans from Democrats.

REAL_garr

In his book "Hometown Democrat," Keillor writes:
I live in Minnesota for the plain and simple reason that I am not so different from these people and also because the social compact is still intact here, despite Republicans trying to pound it out of us.

Huh? The 'social compact' is code for self-perpetuating Entitlement Programs and bigger government. And see? He lives there because he is "not so different" than the common people. As Yoda would say, "M'thinks Elitist Snob is he, yes?"

In the new privatized low-tax minimal-services society the Republicans are striving to lay on us, public transportation will offer no pleasure whatsoever. The bus will be for losers and dopes. The driver will sit in a bullet-proof box and there will be no conversation with him. The bus will be full of angry and sullen people who have lost hope that their kids can rise in the world and have a better life, which is the hope that makes it possible for me to turn to you and say something about the weather. Civility leads to civilities. In Republican America, you will not enjoy public life period. The public library, that great democratic temple, will become a waiting room for desperate and broken people, the alkies, the whacked-out, the unemployables, and the public schools will become holding tanks for children whose parents were too unresourceful to find good schools for them, and politics will be so ugly and rancid that decent people will avoid expressing an opinion for fear of being screeched at and hectored and spat on.

Keillor doesn't get it that it is precisely because of Liberal social engineering that the above scenario will play out - not due to Republican domination. The Liberals want us to give our kids Anger Management classes, failing that they want them on Ritalin or pot - anything to medicate them out of the terrible black and white world that the evil Republicans are creating. Keillor fails to understand the fundamental law of government - Whatever is subsidized, you get more of. The government that governs least is best. The bedrock of Republicanism is laissez-faire - more freedom, less government involvement, less Big Brother.

But Keillor doesn't want to hear it. Like most good DemBots he takes the line of "anyone but Bush." Like his understudy Michael Moore, Nationalism is bad - and Bush is Bad. Anything Bush does - even if it goes towards strengthening our National Security, is patently wrong. If Bush and the NSA team want to tap a few phone lines, by all means go right ahead. WTF??!?! Is it such a big deal if they want to root out some terrorists and, oh maybe, foil a terrorist plot on our own soil? Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. But again, the Dems want to act like 9/11 never happened because they know that when we were attacked, their Dove Party "let's- understand-why-we-brought-this-on-ourselves" mewlings aren't going to wash with Red Staters. So anything to deflect from their own quisling platform is what they choose to highlight. Bush is their favorite target.

At one point in his book, Keillor has this snippet:

There is an old geezer in a captain’s cap with a hundred buttons pinned to it and an electric fan suspended from the brim, an orange vest with badges and flag decals, who rides around the neighborhood from time to time on a three-wheeler with a fringed green canopy over it and a Bush-Cheney bumper sticker and a horn and a bell, with a look of royalty and privilege about him as if he were the Duke of Northumberland accompanied by the Royal Fusiliers, which is fine by me – self-expression is a fine thing – but I look at him and realize why I love the liturgy of the Anglican church: because we didn’t write it, those are everybody’s words. Collective expression is the rare thing; self-expression is common as dandelions.

FrontPageMag points out that 10 pages prior in Keillor's book, he wrote about a New Yorker who was rollerblading around in a Donald Duck mask. Apparently if you're Conservative and you act eccentric, you're automatically an idiot. If you're a Liberal Democrat, you can do whatever you want and it's perfectly acceptable.

Interestingly Keillor writes about shooting his Mother while she works the blender in the kitchen. Freudian, perhaps? Regardless, the message is that Columbine type rampages could be avoided if we'd all just stop the posturing and enter into the Socialist Utopia that Keillor and his ilk have been shoving down our throats since the 1960's. They believe that you can just think your way into this reality. For all the lip service they give to feelings, they seem to be thoroughly entrenched in a cerebal attachment to how things should be. Yet they remain ignorant of how things are. One favorite of the Left is gun contral. Get rid of all guns and you'd have no crime. The problem is that Law Abiding Citizens would obey the law and not own a gun. The criminals would have the guns regardless of the law - that is what criminals do. They break the law. Gun Control should be simply called "The Mugger Protection Act" because the only ones who benefit from strict gun legislation are criminals.

When Clinton was President, people like Keillor didn't raise an eyebrow when aspirin factories were bombed in sub-sahara Africa. Bubba got a free-pass from the Leftists because he was one of them.

Bush has our freedoms, liberties and safety as his highest concerns - no matter what the SpinDoctors at Moveon.org have to say.

Too much freedom is just enough!

Nagin & Hillary: Ebony and Ivory

[hat tip: Michelle Malkin & Laura Ingraham

I was getting tired watching Hillary Clinton 'reinvent' herself as a Centrist. If you have any antennae at all for politics you'd realize that Hillary is a consummate politician - she'll portray herself in whatever the polls say is best for her political advantage.

We now see the real Hillary coming out. But just like the elusive Spotted Owl, you have to be paying attention to catch of glimpse of her.

Last Monday in Harlem, she stood up at an Al Sharpton event and proclaimed that the House of Representatives is "run like a plantation. And you know what I mean."

At the same time we heard Mayor Nagin espouse his vision for a "blacks only" utopian New Orleans :

While Hillary wallowed in Farrakhan-esque rhetoric about Republican slavemasters oppressing black people's right to be heard, Democrat New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin paid tribute to civil rights and the fight for equality by freely mouthing off about his racial dream — a dream for a divinely ordained "chocolate" New Orleans: "I don't care what people are saying [in predominantly white] Uptown or wherever they are. This city will be chocolate at the end of the day. This city will be a majority African-American city. It's the way G-d wants it to be."

Asked by a local reporter for WDSU-TV in New Orleans to explain his remarks, Nagin sniffed condescendingly: "Do you know anything about chocolate? How do you make chocolate? You take dark chocolate, you mix it with white milk, and it becomes a delicious drink. That's the chocolate I'm talkin' about."

Nagin reminds me of something else on the Dairy Queen menu: Nuts. But watch as the media swallow his weasel rationalizations whole.

Some black leaders have condemned her comments as 'contrived' and 'condescending'.

It seems that the Democrats are concerned with keeping blacks 'in the back of the bus' because if blacks succeed, then that is bad news for the Democrats. The Democrats need bad news, negativity, strife and invented racial inequality in order to legitimize their party. What an empty platform to have.

If the demented white liberals continue to pander and condescend, the only thing they'll get is more blacks voting Republican.

That would be a good thing. Bring it on!

For King and Country!

Another volley of Liberal heresy comes to us from, none other than, Salon.com - bless their souls.

Tom Englehardt writes that President Bush is nothing more than a power hungry authority figure who is bent on brutal dictatorship and absolute power.

The beauty of being a Liberal is that you never have to have any data to support where your conclusions come from. For them, all you need to lay out is a loosely spun knit of "what-ifs" and - Voil√°! - instant credibility. You don't have to have facts to punch out a story for CBS - just make it up as you go along. Hell, just print up your own memo (√° la Dan Rather) and go to town! Ask for indictments and impeachment hearings and it's all OK with the mainstream media. The NYTimes will even buy the story and run it above the fold.

--- as long as the offending parties are Bush, Cheney, Rice, Neocons or Pat Robertson. You don't see any in-depth reporting on the underworld dealings of Jessie Jackson. You don't see stories in the NYTimes for week after week, day after day, of Jesse Jackson using racial emnity to "persuade" businesses to give him money, assets and beer distributorships, do you? No. No. No. The media and their quislings focus instead on other, more important issues - the two most striking: The Abu Ghraib Torture scandal, and NSA espionage operations.

BUSH

For you to take umbrage at our duly elected officials doing whatever it takes to ensure our safety and security speaks volumes about what type of person you are. The nouns "protected", "insulated", "monday morning quarterback", "desk jockey", "elitist snob" - all come to mind when I try to envision how I would picture this author. A check of his website's bio shows him to be a U of C - Berkeley professor. These guys call what occured in Abu Ghraib torture? Making people listen to Ice Cube and putting the koran in the toilet are not examples of torture that I could even make up!

What else can I say? It is patently obvious that there is no way that this president nor any other, would have the mechanisms to install his own imperial dictatorship - putting himself in as Supreme Ruler. The constitution, the Bicameral entity that governs our society, has specific checks and balances to ensure that the President's (executive branch) powers are kept in check.

The spying/wiretaps were done on lines of persons who were calling hotbeds of Al-qaeda: Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Korea. Uncle Jimmy calling his nephew in Hoboken was probably not a phonecall that was listened to.

What these tired old 1960s hacks are trying to do is relive the Age of Revolution by attacking the president, undermining our security and demonizing ourselves. They are projecting their worn out slogans and, in their deluded minds, have swapped out the word Viet Nam with Iraq. You can hear the same rhetoric in their tirades: "imperialism", "military-industrial complex", "the president lied" - blah, blah, blah. Yawn....sigh.
If you are a proud American then the Left says you are an "idiot" because you've "bought into the propaganda that the government is selling you." The Left has set it up to make you feel guilty for being proud of your country - how sick is that?

Who's the idiot here? The ones who refuse to acknowledge, let alone deal with, an enemy, or the ones who want to light up a joint, join hands and sing kumbiya?

All I'm saying is : Give War A Chance. The problem with Viet Nam is that we actually listened to Leftist Tools like this guy and look where that got us.

God Saves Senator Kennedy, As Girl Drowns

JFK_wantedfor

I know no other way to say it than this: I despise the Kennedys.

JFK would have been a lackluster president whose greatest achievement would have been getting us involved and bogged down in Viet Nam. He may have even been responsible for the Gulf of Tonkin lie. His brother Ted, the ersatz soul of the Democratic Party, is a serious problem altogether.

Ted murdered Mary Jo Kopechne on the night of July 18, 1969. At approximately 2320 hours, he crashed his car into the Chappequiddick River - killing his companion. He swam to shore, checked into a hotel, phoned his lawyer and waited 12 hours before calling the police. Experts testified at the hearing that she had been in the car alive for about 2 hours.

kennedy

GFY, Teddy. Hope you and Tookie are roasting marshmallows sometime soon.

When philosophy becomes a drug

I have an open mind and enjoy reading other people's thoughts and views on things - even when I don't agree with them outright. I believe that you can learn from people you don't agree with. Does that make me (gasp, horror!) "tolerant" - that can't be! I'm a conservative Republican. Isn't it against our priniciples to have any tolerance. Aren't all Republicans mean-spirited, racist, bigots, and homophobic throwbacks? At least that is what you've been taught from the Liberal Left.

Just like most of the drivel that these quislings spew, they're wrong.

I'm reasonably acquainted with the works of the philosophers: Nietzsche, Kant, Decartes, Schopenhauer, and Kierkegaard. From time to time I read some Leftist blogs that are written by, apparently, college students who are philosophy majors. I just shake my head as I read their postings. Here is an example of one:

Yet it is this early section of the lecture course which has most immediately guaranteed the Plato's Sophist's relevance for Heideggarian scholarship. Indeed, it is generally accepted that Heidegger's theory resonates much more clearly with Aristotelian philosophy than with Platonic ideas....which is reinforced by the striking resemblance his preparatory reading of the Nichomachean Ethics bears to the fundamental structure of Being and Time, revealing the particularity of Heidegger's indebtedness to Aristotle. In this respect, Plato's Sophist has been taken up in support of the growing consensus that Heidegger is ultimately most influenced by Aristotle's "practical philosophy", to the extent that commentators such as Franco Volpi and Jacques Taminiaux argue that within Heidegge''s interpretation of Book Six, "what he takes to be Aristotle's ontology of Dasein .... indicate[s] the very structure of Heidegger's own analytic .... which is the first stage of his fundamental ontology." Plato's Sophist is a reconstructed transcript of a course on Plato's Sophist offered in the Winter Semester of 1924-25 by Heidegger just prior to the publication of Being and Time. The text is in two parts; the first treats Book VI of Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics, whilst the second Plato's Sophist where Plato is cioncerned with the whole--- the notion of being.--as the whole of things, what the world, the cosmos is, including non-being’as a form of Being.
Heidegger's concern is to discover a pre-philosophic way to understand the character and nature of Being through an hermeneutical examination of the western philosophic tradition on the question of Being. That involves a questioning of what the tradition of philosophic scholarship holds Aristotle and Plato to have taught. It indicates how philosophy for Heidegger was in its doing, that for him, philosophy belonged to those who questioned and who didn't write historiological tracts but engaged the material as matter to be thought. Hence the significance of this quote:
'For manifestly you have long been aware of what you mean when you use this expression "being." We, however, who used to think we understood it, have now become perplexed.'

Whew! I don't want to give you the website URL because they don't deserve any more attention than they are already getting. Of course the site is full of Bush-Cheney vitriol and other nonsense from Moonbats with PhDs.

I fully endorse theoretical discussions. Exercises in debates can be healthy and Art/philosophy can be cathartic. It can assist the reader to breakthroughs in understanding and can illuminate the soul. You can become transparent to transcendence.

The question becomes: When does this type of study actually hinder your understanding and become an intellectual trap? I would say that if you're writing segments like the snippet above, you're drowning in your own pool of knowledge.

Let's say you get to a point where you know all the laws, the rules, the theories on existentialism and nihilism and, you can quote most of the top 10 philosophers from the last 300 years. You may be saying to yourself with a smug little grin,"I'm pretty bright."
But it becomes a big "So what?" life moment. It's like when I got my first honorable mention and a salty veteran walked up to me after rollcall and said, "Kid - that and 50 cents will get you a bus ride."

So when do you stop reading all this stuff and fully engage in living your own personal myth? Some people never get beyond intellectualizing. They go through endless loops of circular arguments, hunting for the subtle nuance of tone from one scholar to the next. Does it help you be a better human being?

It comes down to what Walt Whitman wrote in Leaves of Grass:

Have you reckon’d a thousand acres much? have you reckon’d the earth much?
Have you practis’d so long to learn to read?
Have you felt so proud to get at the meaning of poems?
 Stop this day and night with me, and you shall possess the origin of all poems;
You shall possess the good of the earth and sun—(there are millions of suns left;)
You shall no longer take things at second or third hand, nor look through the eyes of the dead,
nor feed on the spectres in books;
You shall not look through my eyes either, nor take things from me:
You shall listen to all sides, and filter them from yourself.

Philosophy without Action is meaningless and is a waste of time. The great poets take their philosophy and act on it - they fully engage in life by finding their own personal myth.

The most important message in modern philosophy comes from Nietzsche. He writes a passage in which a person goes through life stages. From "Thus spoke Zarathustra" - The 3 Metamorphoses:

Of three metamorphoses of the spirit do I tell you: how the spirit becomes a camel, the camel a lion, and the lion at last a child.

Many heavy things are there for the spirit, the strong reverent spirit that would bear much: for the heavy and the heaviest longs its strength.

What is heavy? so asks the spirit that would bear much, and then kneels down like the camel, and wants to be well laden.

What is the heaviest thing, you heroes? asks the spirit that would bear much, that I may take it upon me and exult in my strength.

Is it not this: To humiliate oneself in order to mortify one's pride? To exhibit one's folly in order to mock at one's wisdom?

Or is it this: To desert our cause when it triumphs? To climb high mountains to tempt the tempter?

Or is it this: To feed on the acorns and grass of knowledge, and for the sake of truth to suffer hunger in one's soul?

Or is it this: To be sick and send away the comforters, and to make friends of the deaf, who never hear your requests?

Or is it this: To go into foul water when it is the water of truth, and not avoid cold frogs and hot toads?

Or is it this: To love those who despise us, and to give one's hand to the phantom who tries to frighten us?

All these heaviest things the spirit that would bear much takes upon itself: like the camel, that, when laden, hastens into the desert, so speeds the spirit into its desert.

But in the loneliest desert happens the second metamorphosis: here the spirit becomes a lion; he will seize his freedom and be master in his own wilderness.

Here he seeks his last master: he wants to fight him and his last God; for victory he will struggle with the great dragon.

Who is the great dragon which the spirit no longer wants to call Lord and God? "Thou-shalt," is the great dragon called. But the spirit of the lion says, "I will."

"Thou-shalt," lies in his path, sparkling with gold- a scale-covered beast; and on each scale glitters a golden "Thou-shalt!"

The values of a thousand years glitter on those scales, and thus speaks the mightiest of all dragons: "All values of all things- glitter on me.

All value has long been created, and I am all created value. Verily, there shall be no more 'I will' ." Thus speaks the dragon.

My brothers, why does the spirit need the lion? Why is the beast of burden, which renounces and is reverent, not enough?

To create new values- that, even the lion cannot accomplish: but to create for oneself freedom for new creating- that freedom the might of the lion can seize.

To create freedom for oneself, and give a sacred No even to duty: for that, my brothers, the lion is needed.

To assume the right to new values- that is the most terrifying assumption for a load-bearing and reverent spirit. To such a spirit it is preying, and the work of a beast of prey.

He once loved "Thou-shalt" as the most sacred: now is he forced to find illusion and arbitrariness even in the most sacred things, that freedom from his love may be his prey: the lion is needed for such prey.

But tell me, my brothers, what the child can do, which even the lion could not do? Why must the preying lion still become a child?

The child is innocence and forgetting, a new beginning, a game, a self-rolling wheel, a first movement, a sacred Yes.

For the game of creation, my brothers, a sacred Yes is needed: the spirit now wills his own will; the world's outcast now conquers his own world.

Of three metamorphoses of the spirit I have told you: how the spirit became a camel, the camel a lion, and the lion at last a child.-

Thus spoke Zarathustra. And at that time he stayed in the town which is called The Pied Cow.

This is the heart and soul of religion, of rebirth and of the Resurrection. Neitszche gets his mark. We all have to engage in Life - get down and dirty in the struggles and kill the dragon of "You Should". The "thou shalt" are all the rules and regulations that hinder your spiritual growth. Those rules keep you off your spiritual path and keep you away from your destiny.

Muslims Terrorize Train in France

[update: Here's the story in english]
French news reports that 20 to 30 inebriated Muslims jumped on a Nice-Lyon train on New Years Eve and systematically terrorized the 600+ passengers. During the 249 mile journey, multiple strong-arm robberies, numerous beatings and 2 sexual assaults were reported.

Of course, French news calls them "delinquents" - not Muslims.

[hat tip: No pasaran]

Too bad there were no regular Hooligans on board to bust the skulls of the offenders.

The dashiki and oxtail whip didn't work?

In an ironic twist, Marion Barry was robbed at gunpoint by two teens who he was paying to bring in his groceries. Barry still thinks that the root cause is the amount of guns in Washington D.C. He will introduce tougher gun legislation next week in the city council.

The story is at Hammer of Truth.

When you elect a convicted sex offender and drug addict as your mayor, it all begins to make sense.

Big Tool 2

If you're interested, as an addendum to my original Mike Farrell posting, I just noticed that Zombie has some fantastic photography from the final Tookie Williams "vigil"

It's definitely worth a look. You can see Mike Farrell in all his glory, surrounded by the Fruit of Islam bodyguard detail.

The Moonbats were in full force - including signage saying "Abolish The Racist Death Penalty."

By the way, burn in Hell Tookie...au revoir!

Michael Crichton - Pointing the Bone

I use the term hysterical - not in its comical sense but in the sense that an event derives from hysteria - founded in fear and panic.

Fear and panic are what drives our media. The aboriginal shamen will "point a bone" at a person and that person will die days later from mysterious, unknown causes.

In "Fear, Complexity, and Environmental Management in the 21st Century", Michael Crichton presents his case that we are hooked on the sensational and the salacious. He discusses the idea that our opinions are formed by "false fears" - citing the Chernobyl disaster, Population Explosion, and Global Warming theories as evidence that hysteria-driven news reports have longer and much more far-reaching consequences than the events that are reported.

He shows that initially, Chernobyl experts claimed that the disaster had only 2,000 casualties - with an unknown number of future deaths and deformities. As the years passed, the size of the disaster increased; by 2000, the BBC and New York Times estimated 15,000-30,000 dead.

The actual number of dead was 56. The actual number of delayed deaths was 4,000. Surprised?

He claims that the Ukrainian people were "information casualties." They reacted to news reports, reports tarnished with unrealistic scientific datum, that said the death toll could reach "tens of thousands, with hundreds of thousands more rendered sterile." That affected the thousands of Ukrainians who didn’t die. They were made invalids out of fear. They were told to be afraid. They were told they were going to die when they weren’t. They were told their children would be deformed when they weren’t. They were told they couldn’t have children when they could. They were authoritatively promised a future of cancer, deformities, pain and decay. None of which was true.

ms_chernobyl_04

Global Warming is also brought out as an example of unfounded pablum. People forget that for decades, scientists warned us that the earth was cooling...yes - Cooling.

His point is well taken. We live in an age of sensationalism where pseudo-science reigns and lawsuits define how we conduct ourselves. How many of you heard that "Killer Bees" were coming from South America to infect the docile American bees with murderous rage? There were timelines and geographic data drawn up showing that by 2000, two-thirds of the US would be covered by the Killer Bees and that there was no hope for our civilization....remember that?

Even the Katrina disaster showed how little we care for the facts. Thousands murdered, armed gangs running the streets, police officers killed, looting, raping, suicides...it turned out to be completely untrue.

The sad thing is that most people don't bother to dig below the headlines. They rely on sounds bytes and 15 second TV news stories to form their opinions about things. And they are very ready to believe anything that sounds outrageous and salacious.

Look at all the Urban Legends that so many gullible fools think are true. They don't bother to even think about how insane the proposals are - "forward this email to 10 friends and Bill Gates will send you $5,000 dollars", or "forward this email and a little dog will dance across your screen."

Do they stop to think for a moment as to how this system would even work? And more to the point - thinking is a rare commodity these days. Crichton shows that system complexity is not understood and is mostly underestimated. We don't know enough about our own weather to accurately forecast a thunderstorm - let alone a tornado. Then how can we possibly understand Global Warming with all of the complexity that that model contains? We cannot - for now.

The debate will continue but I can make a prediction: Global Warming will turn out to be a natural and cyclical meteorological systemic event.

Open Letter to Mike Farrell

Mike_Farrell_sucks

Mike Farrell, former star of the 70's TV show "M*A*S*H", has been very busy. Since he has not had a role in a major motion picture, and whose last memorable TV performance was in 1999 show "Providence," he decided to change careers and take up the lucrative job of "anti-Death Penalty" pundit.

Mike likes to take up the cause of defending convicted murderers like Tookie Williams. He doesn't call him Tookie, though. That is too dehumanizing. Mike refers to him by his given name - "Stanley". Mike has been making the rounds on the TV defending these murderers and attempting to spin their images into something more palatable. You can't have people thinking that a convicted killer, who was convicted with an overwhelming amount of evidence, is a bad guy? Oh No. Mike Farrell wants us to believe that Stanley is just misunderstood and that racisim is the reason why he was sentenced to death.

Here is a copy of the letter I sent to Mike Farrell:
Dear Mr. Farrell:
Your opposition to the death penalty and your active role in commuting to 'life in prison' for such pillars of society as Stanley "tookie" Williams is shameful and naive.
It does not surprise me that I see yet another actor, whose moral compass was forged in the miasma of 60's radicalism, take the side of a cold-blooded killer while dismissing the torment and horror that the murder's actions caused.
Your sheltered life and misguided intentions give
you no right to speak on behalf of such vermon. You provide people with zero evidence that Tookie is not guilty for his crimes. You say the prosecutor trying the case "excused blacks from the jury pool", that the prosecutor used highly charged terms with clear racial implications, that Tookie was forced to sit before the jury in chains and shackles in a tactic intended to inspire fear and loathing in the jury, and that a federal appeals court judge said the conviction was
based on "circumstantial evidence and the testimony of witnesses whose credibility was highly suspect."
People are excused from jury pools all the time and for many reasons. Tookie was a dangerous criminal with a violent history. He was made to sit in handcuffs and shackles to protect the officers and courtroom staff. And witness testimony and informant information is used all the time in the US Courts - there is nothing inappropriate about it. Tookie's "snitches" were no choir boys - but sometimes the only source of information about a crime comes from criminals.
Why don't you save your speeches for the victims. They have no voice, can no longer exercise or breath the sweet air, nor hear the songs of birds in the spring trees. You are just another pathetic and shallow actor with
delusions of grandeur who hopes to get some media attention by glamming
onto the coattails of death row thugs. After what Norman Mailer went through with championing the cause of a convicted murderer, one would expect you to think twice about carrying the torch for a person of Tookie's character.
You state that "I wasn't there so I don't know if he killed them or not" - you're so delusional you'd probably take Tookie's defense even more to heart if you'd witnessed his crimes personally. You act like this person was a victim - a victim of a dysfunctional family, of instituationalized racism, or economic deprivations - but where is your evidence? When does a person take responsibility for his actions and pay the price for the brutality and horror and pain that he has caused?
If I had to nominate you for an award it would be "Overlord of The Wasteland" - because TS Eliot's poem is precisely the World that Liberals like you are bringing to fruition with your myopic policies and naivete. We are entering a Wasteland of tolerance for crime, for criminals and for rampant "do it if it feels good" culture.
You must be so proud.

This guy is just another vapid fool who is trying to mollify his guilt by taking up the cause of criminals and murderers. Who is he to say that the Death Penalty is wrong. What hubrus!

He is just like Norm Chomsky - living in an affluent area but condemning "capitalism." Mike Farrell, no doubt, lives in an exclusive and affluent area but, uses his activism simply to give himself a big "attaboy" slap on the back. It affords him the luxury of fooling himself into thinking that he is doing something worthwhile.

Hey Mike, if you want to do something truly worthwhile - take the parents of one of Tookie's victims out to lunch and learn about the people that Tookie victimized. The children, the hopes, the dreams, the grandchildren that never came - write about that on your website!
